I... Well, it's as close to one as it can be. [he is used to Fancy Victorian Kits though, and this one falls heinously short.] But I've been trying to get a few handkerchiefs done as gifts. I don't have the time for bigger projects.
Ah, that's good...! Something nice and simple. [ until he sees the embroidery... The mention reminds him that Gilbert's handkerchief is still in his pocket, though. The problem there being that he doesn't really want to give it back, just in case he disappears. ] I've still got the one you loaned me, haven't I...? That was rude of me, holding onto it for so long without saying anything...
[OH GARRY... it's okay, even with the embroidery he thinks it's nice and simple too and just winds up nodding in agreement with that.
he has also more or less completely forgotten about that handkerchief and actually looks a little surprised upon its mention.]
Oh! I didn't know you still had that. ...Er, if you need a spare, you can keep it... to clean up messes or something, I guess. I already have a new one.
[ well, this is a little embarrassing to say, but he might as well, seeing as it's come up, though the look he gives Gilbert is definitely a sheepish one. ]
Er... I told you about the gallery before, right? Did I ever tell you what happened when we got back?
[ I DON'T REMEMBER EITHER IT'S OKAY a+ roleplaying
also he's already told Gil the weirdest parts so it can only go uphill from here...! ]
Well, to put it short... I didn't remember a single thing when I came back to the real world. I was right where I'd been standing before hand, right at the same time, as if it had all been a strange flight of fancy. I don't think I would have remembered anything at all if it hadn't been for Ib. She'd loaned me her handkerchief before we went back through, and when I found it in my pocket, I suddenly remembered everything, just like that... [ it's likely obvious what he's getting at now. ] And I'm worried that the same thing will happen when I leave Haven, since they're rather similar. Um... so I was wondering if I could maybe -- keep your handkerchief, just in case...?
[ the implication is that he doesn't want to forget you, Gilbert! He might be blushing faintly. Don't look now. ]
[WOW moe. he actually is touched because he catches the implication there, and to think that there's someone who would want to remember him even after returning to their own world is a pretty heartening thing to hear!
he busies his hands with setting up his little sewing kit like a loser, but nods in response.]
I don't mind at all. [then again he had basically just volunteered it to Garry permanently to act as like a kitchen sponge or something. it's nice that he knows there's sentiment attached, though.] ...I wonder if it would really work like that.
Thank you. [ score one for Garry...! Even if Gilbert's reaction was small. He'd come to expect that from his friend by now. He just smiles and nods, returning his eyes to his handiwork. ]
Well, I can't say for sure, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, you know? Even though there might be some things I'd be happier not remembering if I ever get back home.
[the thoughtful silence that follows on his end seems a little heavier than usual, because he absolutely knows what Garry is talking about. still...]
I guess everything here is something that should be remembered in the end. Good and bad... the people we know today are the way they are because of those things, right?
[and he is a firm believer in that now. good or bad, no matter what it is, if given the choice to remember or forget - now, he would always choose to remember.]
[wow Garry you don't sound quite disbelieving enough yet!!]
...Something like that, I guess. You learn either way. [MISERY MAKES YOU STRONGER. or it makes you crazy. or it makes you strong and crazy and god knows how well that goes for everyone, whoops.
either way, he's got his dumb stuff all set up now. it looks like he's in the middle of yet another kerchief! this one has intricate floral designs running along the edge.]
[ well I suppose that applies to basically everyone Gil knows.... including himself...
Garry nods agreeably, although he indeed seems somewhat tired of it all, but he can't help but peer nosily at what Gilbert is doing, and what he sees seem to surprise him. ]
[NOSY GARRY. he looks up in surprise at that, though, vaguely confused for a second before realizing he's talking about the kerchief (which he doesn't think is particularly impressive).]
[ flustered gil is cute... still, Garry waves a hand at him, dismissing his modesty. ]
Well, it's lovely! I don't know how to embroider. You made it sound like you just knew how to fix tears, but you're actually quite good at this stuff, aren't you?
I'm better at fixing tears and things like that. [Garry should see the miraculous second life he's managed to give some of Vincent's far-gone plush toys...
he smooths the handkerchief out after that, lapsing into a brief silence.] ...Would you want to learn how?
Oh -- then... yes! Certainly! [ Garry nods energetically, setting the piece of Diva's dress he was working on before on the table and scooting his chair around to sit next to Gilbert. ] I can handle practicing.
[as soon as Garry is close enough, he pulls a... second handkerchief from his box... DON'T ASK QUESTIONS JUST TAKE IT.] What do you want to try first? Flowers might be a little complex, but there are easier ones to start with.
All right. That should be just fine. [ he grabs a small spool of thread from his pile of Stuff; he doesn't have much to go around, but he's willing to use it up learning something new. ]
but yes he will get his own thread and needle ready, positioning the handkerchief so the corner is in his opposite palm. after tying the holding knot in his thread, he jabs upward through the bottom of the fabric in the center of the corner area.]
You start like this... And then once you get here, you turn it like this. Just do that until it looks like... this. [demonstrating as he goes!] Once you've done that a few times, it'll look pretty close to a flower. See? [speedy mcspeedster has already done half of one little flower-looking pattern.]

You'd teach me...?! I'd love to learn! It's not terribly difficult, is it?
no subject
I don't think so. Once you get a hold of the basic techniques, the rest follows easily. All it takes is a little practice so you don't get rusty.

Well, why don't we start with something easier, then? I don't want to overestimate my abilities, here.

I can show you a basic pattern, in that case. It resembles flowers, but it isn't quite as intricate.
