Thanks. [a nod as he gratefully accepts the mug! it's nice just to have something hot to hold, really; it gives him something to focus on - a way to ground himself.
he's looking PRETTY EMBARRASSED THOUGH. that was an embarrassing moment, even if Garry is joking about it now...]
We really weren't sure what might work, so... we thought it would just be best to try everything that we could think of. [...] Did she ever wind up locking you in the bathroom?
[ OH GILBERT you punching him is but a fart in the wind compared to Meryl filling his respiratory organs with living cockroaches... don't be embarrassed. ]
Well, it's worked before, so it was a fine guess. And -- no, thank goodness for that! We figured out after a while that I was just saying things, not doing things, so she just had to try to ignore me... Although, come to think of it, I remember some sort of horse coming into the room and casting a spell on me at some point... [ he's not crazy really IT WAS PRINCESS LUNA... ] Anyway, was there something you wanted to talk about?
[wow it's good that there are other, greater horrors that he can rank under(???)
what the heck though, Garry, that makes no sense.]
A what? [...] What sort of spell? [what is your life. that question has him looking vaguely sheepish!] —Oh, not... Not really. Sorry, I just - I ran out of things to do, so...
[ wow... Gilbert ran out of things to do and actually came to visit him?? HE'S LEARNING!! Learning how to do normal friend things!! Garry is tickled, and the smile he shows is just a bit wider and more appreciative, in spite of the rather heavy atmosphere in the apartments these days.
(we'll just ignore the pony thing. clearly it was nervous rambling that led him to blurt that out...) ]
Oh, it was just some sort of sound-blocking spell, I think... But anyway, there's no need to apologize for that! I'm happy to see you, Gilbert. Although I'm not sure how much I've got to do, either. I've just been working on some sewing I promised I'd do...
[a magical pony that soundproofed Garry, wow... well he's heard stranger things before so he will just sort of uneasily accept that at face value. ...ish.
MOVING ON. sewing is something he could get behind! yes, give him more busy work, he will never have quite enough.]
All sorts of things. You remember how I offered to mend some things a while ago? There are still a few things I haven't been able to finish up... Diva asked for an entire dress, for one thing.
[ he laughs, sounding slightly exasperated. but in a fond way, really. ]
[now that he actually knows who Diva is thanks to Izumo, he kind of tenses a little at hearing her name. NEVER FORGIVE NEVER FORGET the saltines were one thing okay but Oz's precious hand...]
I remember. ...Did you still need any extra thread or fabrics, by the way?
[ it's funny how none of his other friends like diva!! i wonder why that is!! ]
No, so far, so good. A lot of people gave me scraps, and she might have asked for this whole thing, but she's brought me all the materials, too. [ absently, he goes to sip his tea, and immediately winces as he burns the heck out of his tongue. Too impatient... ] Ow, ow--! ... Anyways, thank you for offering, though - I appreciate it. If you've got nothing to do, I don't mind if you want to use some of my things, too.
Do you need some ice? [he'll call one of those freezy ice powers guys up!!
that actually sounds like a good distraction, though. exactly what he needs.] —Ah, but... if you wouldn't mind, sure. I can bring a few things that I was working on over.
Hah... Where are you going to find ice around here, Gilbert? I know I've said it before, but you really worry too much. [ and he knows that he needed a distraction - that's just why he brought it up. ] Please, go get them, then. I'll wait for you here!
There are... [PEOPLE WHO DO THE ICE THING but he's realizing at least how dumb that sounds. "hi good sir could you please provide me with one single cube of ice, my dingus friend has burnt his tongue."
rather than embarrass himself further he just lets the sentence die off where it is, standing soon after.] I'll be right back, then. [AND AWAY HE GOES...
he will return in a few minutes with his tiny sewing kit in tow and a little bag of Stuff.]
[ what a dork... Garry just chuckles to himself a little, somewhat charmed, and nods to Gilbert as he flees the room to get his materials (and some lost dignity, probably.) This might be the first time they've actually sat down and chatted without any particular reason or need to do so. Disappearances aside, of course.
He'll still be sitting there as promised when Gilbert comes back, although he's gone back to his work; he's wearing an exceptionally ratty (but usable!) pincushion on his wrist, undoubtedly scrounged up somewhere in Haven, and is sewing up something out of a long, pale blue piece of fabric. But he's polite enough to put that down for a second and glance back up when he re-enters. ]
Ah... you really do have a lot! Is that a sewing kit? It's so small and cute...
[small and cute I THINK YOU MEAN.... no okay that's pretty much it. he glances down at the box, shifting his weight to his opposite foot in his usual restless way.]
It's... Well, it isn't exactly a kit, but it has most of the things I need to do small repairs or small sewing jobs.
I... Well, it's as close to one as it can be. [he is used to Fancy Victorian Kits though, and this one falls heinously short.] But I've been trying to get a few handkerchiefs done as gifts. I don't have the time for bigger projects.
Ah, that's good...! Something nice and simple. [ until he sees the embroidery... The mention reminds him that Gilbert's handkerchief is still in his pocket, though. The problem there being that he doesn't really want to give it back, just in case he disappears. ] I've still got the one you loaned me, haven't I...? That was rude of me, holding onto it for so long without saying anything...
[OH GARRY... it's okay, even with the embroidery he thinks it's nice and simple too and just winds up nodding in agreement with that.
he has also more or less completely forgotten about that handkerchief and actually looks a little surprised upon its mention.]
Oh! I didn't know you still had that. ...Er, if you need a spare, you can keep it... to clean up messes or something, I guess. I already have a new one.
[ well, this is a little embarrassing to say, but he might as well, seeing as it's come up, though the look he gives Gilbert is definitely a sheepish one. ]
Er... I told you about the gallery before, right? Did I ever tell you what happened when we got back?
[ I DON'T REMEMBER EITHER IT'S OKAY a+ roleplaying
also he's already told Gil the weirdest parts so it can only go uphill from here...! ]
Well, to put it short... I didn't remember a single thing when I came back to the real world. I was right where I'd been standing before hand, right at the same time, as if it had all been a strange flight of fancy. I don't think I would have remembered anything at all if it hadn't been for Ib. She'd loaned me her handkerchief before we went back through, and when I found it in my pocket, I suddenly remembered everything, just like that... [ it's likely obvious what he's getting at now. ] And I'm worried that the same thing will happen when I leave Haven, since they're rather similar. Um... so I was wondering if I could maybe -- keep your handkerchief, just in case...?
[ the implication is that he doesn't want to forget you, Gilbert! He might be blushing faintly. Don't look now. ]
[WOW moe. he actually is touched because he catches the implication there, and to think that there's someone who would want to remember him even after returning to their own world is a pretty heartening thing to hear!
he busies his hands with setting up his little sewing kit like a loser, but nods in response.]
I don't mind at all. [then again he had basically just volunteered it to Garry permanently to act as like a kitchen sponge or something. it's nice that he knows there's sentiment attached, though.] ...I wonder if it would really work like that.
Thank you. [ score one for Garry...! Even if Gilbert's reaction was small. He'd come to expect that from his friend by now. He just smiles and nods, returning his eyes to his handiwork. ]
Well, I can't say for sure, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, you know? Even though there might be some things I'd be happier not remembering if I ever get back home.
[the thoughtful silence that follows on his end seems a little heavier than usual, because he absolutely knows what Garry is talking about. still...]
I guess everything here is something that should be remembered in the end. Good and bad... the people we know today are the way they are because of those things, right?
[and he is a firm believer in that now. good or bad, no matter what it is, if given the choice to remember or forget - now, he would always choose to remember.]
